This is Jared Leto as The Joker. Dear God, WHY?

I haven’t been shy about my current dislike for DC’s movies, but I’ve always thought Suicide Squad will turn out to be something special. For one, the cast seems to be very solid, and the concept fits the “edgy” vibe DC seems to be going for; you know, the one suited for a 15 year-old kid back when the first Matrix movie was a thing.

Everyone’s eyes were on Jard Leto as he will take on the Joker, a role which already had three very iconic portrayals in the past: Jack Nicholson in 1989’s Batman, Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and Mark Hamill’s animated version.

It’s not an understatement to say that Jared Leto has some pretty huge (clown) shoes to fill. For the most part, I’m ok with him, because if anybody can play a murderous sociopath clown, it would be Jared Leto. So I waited and see.

Then Suicide Squad director David Ayer released this image of the Jared Leto Joker:

Jesus Fucking Christ just look at that thing. Did somebody dig up the Joker’s old MySpace profile or something?

I’VE BECOME SO NUMB I CAN’ FEEL YOU THERE BECOME SO TIRED SO MUCH MORE AWARE

Back when Leto was getting his haircut for the Joker, I was expecting the David Bowie-ish Joker from Batman RIP or the creepy unsettling one from Batman: Endgame. Instead we get this.

Sure, it’s “edgy.” But as much as the Joker is an egdy character, he’s edgy in a “he will murder you and your entire family while laughing himself out as he feels no remorse” way, not a “look at these edgy tattoos and teeth grills yes I got these back when I was 15 why do you ask” way. The little we’ve seen of the Jared Leto Joker just misses the point entirely, I’m really worried about how Suicide Squad, the one DC movie I was looking forward to watching, will turn out.

Also, that “damaged” tattoo on his forehead is just too much. Maybe Jared Leto thought he was joining a Suicide Girls movie, not Suicide Squad. I really don’t want to know anymore.
