Oh lookee! It’s September, and it’s time to break out the Christmas decorations because Christmas is just around the corner! Okay, not really, because, you see, you can’t put Christmas in a corner because it’s a metaphysical thing we call a holiday, and we really can’t shoehorn holidays in corners and– yeah? Well, fuck you too.

Anyway, since I am about to go on a rampage the next time I hear Jose Mari Chan’s “Whenever I see girls and boys selling lanterns on the street” being played around me, I might as well use this early Christmas spirit to help me out of this writer’s block. And people are already putting up their wish lists, I might as well make mine to give you people enough time to save up and buy me these things! Right guys? Guys?

The Complete Remastered Beatles Catalog

I really want this. I’ve been a big Beatles fan for as long as I could remember, and my biggest complaint about their albums is that they sound too tinny. (more…)

Last.fm is Robbing me of my Dignity

22 Oct

So the other day I got me a Last.fm account, mainly because I want to be cool and shit. Also, joining a 3-year old social network that everyone else is tired of is, well, how I roll. Shut up. Anyway, I wanted to prove to my friends how badass and awesome my musical taste is, so Last.fm would showcase my awesome indie playlist, full of Cloud Cult and other bands that you couldn’t even pronounce. Also some bands you haven’t heard of. (Because I made them up) Besides, a bassist like me should have a testimony of his coolness on the interwebs, somewhere. That could get me laid with an indie girl somewhere. And I could say I’m friends with John Lennon.

I digress. (more…)

The Beatles: Love

1 Feb

Here’s something that all my friends in real life know about me but don’t reveal too much on the web:

I love The Beatles. Yes, those four guys (and two of them are dead) with the weird hairdos who sing in harmonies and “She Loves You” and smoke weed and basically what grumpy old men in their 70s listen to.

Finished laughing already? No? Okay!

Ok, so I just bought their new album LOVE, expecting a tired, random “The Beatles, Remixed” package. I knew it was a mashup album, but I still wasn’t expecting too much of it. I knew George Martin and his son Giles produced the 26-track album , but even though George Martin was the original producer of most of the Beatles’ songs, I still thought I wouldn’t be impressed. So why did I buy it in the first place? I’m a big fan (as I stated already), and since this is being touted as “the first Beatles album since 1970″, I just had to listen to it. So how was LOVE?

Let me just tell you this: “The Beatles, Remixed” it was not. It was something else. Totally indescribable.

Unlike my previous reviews, I won’t give you a song-by-song review of the album because the album is just one whole medley and each track being a jumble of sounds from other songs, and breaking down each track and talking about the strengths and weaknesses of each would be an exercise in futility.

So I’ll just say what I like and don’t like about LOVE.
