MOSCOW – Apparently, them Russians have had enough of their kids dressing weirdly. Fed up with their children’s black-dressing and bad hair ways, the Russian government is passing a law that will effectively ban emo hairstyles and emo dress styles in schools and government buildings.

A behind-the-scenes look at the legislative process.

The laws are being crafted to curb dangerous self-destructive activities associated with emo.

The Guardian describes emos as “12-16 year-olds with black and pink clothing, studded belts, painted fingernails, ear and eyebrow piercings, and black hair with fringes that ‘cover half the face’. Emo culture’s ‘negative ideology’ may encourage depression, social withdrawal and even suicide, the bill alleges – with young girls being particularly vulnerable.” (more…)

100 Songs. For Great Victory.

28 May

So Baddie wrote this pretty awesome blog entry about a hundred songs to save your life. Also, The Jew tagged me.

Now these are the songs I want to raise my future children (henceforth known as Genetic Experiments numbers 1-16) with. Now, people, don’t you judge me if you find something you don’t like in this list, lest I’ll dig up that Ricky Martin album you’ve hidden somewhere.

My Songwriting Skills Need Work

25 May

Every weekend, my bandmates and I meet up in one of those coffee shops scattered in the metro. Aside from playing Gino Padilla’s “Closer You And I” ad nauseam, we also try to write songs.

My bandmates, in my opinion, are badass songwriters. They can take one mundane situation like “I was about to cross the road when this jeepney stops in front of me and wouldn’t let me pass; the driver parked there for a good two minutes, blocking my way, until he realized that I wasn’t going to ride his stupid jeepney” into a pretty tight song:

(Don’t mind the stupid-looking bassist, k?) (more…)

Piano on Fire: Aloha, Eraserheads

9 Mar

EraserheadsI honestly don’t want to write about the Eraserheads because, well, everyone else is blogging about it now and I don’t know what else to add to the babble. I don’t want to write a blow-by-blow account of the concert, or even a recollection of my favorite moments. I shan’t bore you with that. But still, even though it’s been a day after the concert, I’m still on a high and I’m typing away this entry even if I can barely keep my eyes open.

I’m not the biggest Eraserheads fan around. I know of a hundred people who can claim that they are the biggest fan. I only have Cutterpillow and Fruitcake (plus the book) in my collection. Like so many people, I thought they jumped the shark when Sticker Happy came out. I’ve never seen them perform live.

But if you’re a kid growing up in the 90’s, they’re inescapable. I was able to get a copy of Circus recently and I was amazed to discover that I know every track by heart, thanks to my class adviser who played the album in an endless loop every single day of my 5th grade life. (more…)

Last.fm is Robbing me of my Dignity

22 Oct

So the other day I got me a Last.fm account, mainly because I want to be cool and shit. Also, joining a 3-year old social network that everyone else is tired of is, well, how I roll. Shut up. Anyway, I wanted to prove to my friends how badass and awesome my musical taste is, so Last.fm would showcase my awesome indie playlist, full of Cloud Cult and other bands that you couldn’t even pronounce. Also some bands you haven’t heard of. (Because I made them up) Besides, a bassist like me should have a testimony of his coolness on the interwebs, somewhere. That could get me laid with an indie girl somewhere. And I could say I’m friends with John Lennon.

AdeFAIL: Random McDonald’s Girl

22 Sep

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series AdeFAIL

Flashback to a few months ago:

So The Mordo and I were hanging out at the McDonald’s near the office. Also, we were taking shelter from the rain (and we were finding an excuse to not go back to work) when this Kylie Minogue song played on the muzak. Since we consider ourselves experts on nothing more then the female body and all the joys it imparts, The Mordo and I had a discussion on the apparent hotness of Kylie Minogue (FYI: she’s still hot).

Anyway, in the middle of a debate on whether or not a masectomy can reduce Kylie Minogue’s overall hotness (it won’t), we had this rather… interesting discussion:

Mordo: “Listen to her voice, Ade”

Ade: “Yeah, I am, what about it?”

Mordo: “Can’t you hear the hotness?”

Ade: “Er… what?!”

Mordo: “No, listen! Kylie Minogue’s hotness! It oozes out of her voice!” (more…)

In This Entry Ade Discovers That Beer And Headaches Do Not Mix

15 Sep

Last Saturday I went to Kublai’s Katipunan for my band’s gig, all hyped up and ready to rock. But with one major problem: I had a splitting headache. You see, I haven’t been getting enough sleep as of late because I like to stay up late and download all sorts of porn. But yeah, let’s stay on topic: porn. No, wait. I meant sleep deprivation.

So it was pretty obvious I can’t really rock out if my head feels like it was going to be split in two because of the pain. I just wanted to just finish the set and go home (and wank off) because of the goddamn migraine. But yeah, I wanted to rock off, right? So I just had to find a cure. I mean, what’s the perfect cure?

beer

And there’s no better way to get rid of a headache than beer.
