I work in an 11-12 hour shift for 4 weekdays (& I spend most of the time I'm not on the road or strapped to my desk just sleeping the rest of my life away) & if only I don't spend 10 minutes or so on a few calls I'd get as much as 200 calls (but those would include transfers, I suppose) per shift. Holy crap. So it's 10 times more sickening to put up with idiots who can't seem to understand the meaning of the phrase "please wait after 7-10 working days" dammit.
So what're you saying? Your miseries are better than mine?
Honestly, if you spend as much as two hours on one call wondering why the fuck their wireless is not working, you'd totally understand why I get to have only 40 calls a day. From rednecks who can't find the start button.
Bah, 40 calls max a day? I've been involved in a groundbreaking project and for that, I owe them my service for the next couple of years and I'm willing to give it to them.
I agree that call centers are slowly burning out a lot of people but it also puts them in a vicious cycle because even if they leave one call center, they end up in another one most of the time. Higher position, higher salary, same stress...most of the time.
Good to know that you managed to jump out of the whirlwind, Ade.

Hayyyyyyyy money. Punyeta, bat kasi kelangan pang magwork. I'm currently in bubububumland and I need to make a living asap otherwise I'll deplete all my resources. Thoughts of applying as a cc rep are the demons constantly invading my consciousness. It seems that for most youngsters like us who don't have any effing idea HOW to make a living just go straight to call centers... Arrr. I hates it. This whoring for other countries. I really do. But I dunno where else to go... The publishing industry (both tru the internet or in the real world - magazines, newspapers, that sort of thang) seems too bleak, I'd rather work as a librarian in Pambansang Aklatan. Graaarrrrrrrr.
I actually have work already for another company, and yeah, I know what you mean. I never really wanted to go in the Call Center industry, it's just that I needed the cash back then. I never regretted it, but then, if applying for one is totally against your principles, I can only imagine the torture it'll put you through.
BUT.

What would you do next?

Hayyyyyyyy money.
