Last Thursday, Metro Manila was in the mercy of Milenyo, one of the worst storms to hit the metro in recent memory, and, well, it just plunged the whole of Luzon into a massive blackout and threw the whole country into chaos.

So, imagine me, an internet addict who, for the life of me, cannot take a data sabbath, being cut off from the rest of the digital world. It’s torture, I tell you. As both of my cellphones were signal-less and my iPod’s battery also conveniently died, I was instead anxiously waiting on the status of the weather on our ancient transistor radio and was worried sick about the people caught in the midst of the storm’s fury. (Yes, I do care about humanity. Screw you.) But I did learn a few things:
- People would risk decapitation for some few measly pieces of flying rusted corrugated roofing.
- Going cold turkey off teh interwebs can actually cause uncontrollable muscle spasms and shortness of breath.
- Also, listening to the radio’s news broadcast gives me the impression that radio stations have a thing against those billboards that line up the metro. Especially the falling ones.
- Billboards are actually fatal. (Well, seeing that giant billboard of Kris Aquino in her underwear along the stretch of EDSA could actually cause fatal epileptic siezures, but that’s another story).
- Braving the strong rain and winds while having a bout of flu isn’t really the smartest thing to do.
- Watching a large tree get uprooted and roll along the street is very fascinating to watch. Until you realize it’s headed towards you.
But if you think that this article was done in bad taste, think again. We just survived one of the biggest calamities to hit the country ever. I’m just thankful, but if you did lose your home, property or loved ones during that horrible storm, my heart and prayers go out to you.
As I said, I do care about humanity. Screw. You.

I don’t know why, but I find blogs with sarcasm mixed with intellectual blurbs really really interesting.
I heard about Milenyo when I called my friend in Makati, and it was right in the middle of the storm.
Hmm. I hope everything will all be good when I get there mid October.

Milenyo didn’t stand a chance. I even surfed the net while downloading illegal mp3’s (sssssh!), had a DVD marathon, and laughed my ass off because of what happened to the rest of Luzon. Ah, the wonders of power generators and hoarding diesel gasoline!
I am an elitist son of a bitch. Sue me.

well, it’s just happened that the typhoon milenyo changed its way, so southern leyte was saved from another tragedy.

my batangas house’s first floor was decimated. flash floods made the cars float and SLAM against the gate several times and the alarm drained the battery.
I was at Manila when the storm hit. Never lost electricity, water and phone lines (and yes, even my internet connection stayed put).

waaa! I’m still cut off from the online world! It has been four days and still, we have to power nor landline services in our corner of Cavite. I’m blogging from an internet cafe right now and I wish I could just stay here until things go back to normal at home.
I’m just glad the storm is gone, it’s time to cleanup and rebuild all over again.

Can you believe I was at work when the storm really hit and billboards were flying all over EDSA? And my bosses were still debating whether to send us home or keep us working. (This was after the power went out, too.)

Was watching TFC that afternoon for news updates. Funny, how many people attempted to steal the telephone wires when it all fell off. Geez, it’s them who should have billboards falling over them, not some innocent drivers and by standers. Okay I’m mean. Sorry.
Like I said in another blog, “WHAT DOES NOT KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER”. To the rest of the population who survived, go kick some ass (please, not literally…) and prove just that.

at 11AM, the power went out. at 1PM, Globe’s signal disappeared. and at 3PM, the phone lines went dead.
fortunately for me, the power went back at around 5:30. and so did everything else after 3 hours.

it was just windy & drizzling in baguio at that time. we were even at the tiptop of sm enjoying the breeze while our friends in manila panic over the flying billboards. teehee. sorry cant help it.

KILL MERALCO!!!! Bwisit nga ala na kuryente, masnakakainis mawalan ng tubig. I felt like a WW2 refugee during the three nights w/o h2O and electricity. Lahat ng food nasa ice chests, rationed ang water for bathing, candles lang ang light source… argh!

Nothing particularly special about the storm for me. We got power and DSL back in just a few hours

Hmmm… I’m not sure if I’d be flattered or offended seeing my Philippine map from Wikipedia here with the “owned” graffiti on it. You do know that the map is under the GFDL and so you’re obliged to offer your modified version under the GFDL, too, right? BTW, you probably won’t remember, but we met at the BlogCon in Greenbelt. :)
